Council Tax Bill Important Information​​​

METHODS OF PAYMENT

DIRECT DEBIT – is the easiest way to pay. Most bank and building society accounts accept direct debit instructions. There are four payment dates available, the 1st, 10th, 20th or 28th of each month, apply here

TELEPHONE – debit or credit card payments can be made by telephone, 24 hours, 7 days a week. Please call the automated payment line on 0303 333 4300.

POST – only cheques and postal orders should be sent through the post, made payable to Halton Borough Council and crossed. Please send payments to Halton Borough Council Income Control Team, Municipal Building, Widnes, WA8 7QF. POST DATED CHEQUES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

CASH​​ - can be paid at any convenience store displaying the PayPoint logo (you will need the barcode shown on your bill) Please do not send cash through the post.

INTERNET – Payments can now be made online


PAYING THIS BILL

Your Council Tax Bill is normally payable by 10 monthly instalments. Your first instalment is shown on the front of this bill. If you wish to pay over 12 months please telephone us by 15th April. If you become liable for Council Tax part way through a year then the number of instalments will be reduced accordingly. Payment can also be made annually by 15th April or 14 days from the date the bill was issued, or half yearly on 15th April and 1st September. Please telephone us if you wish to change to either of these payment methods.

FAILURE TO PAY BY THE DUE DATE WILL RESULT IN RECOVERY ACTION BEING TAKEN


COUNCIL TAX DISCOUNTS & PREMIUMS

If you think you are entitled to a discount please apply here. If you are in receipt of a discount or liable for Empty Homes Premium and your circumstances change whereby you believe you no longer qualify, or should be entitled to a lower amount of discount or premium, please notify us within 21 days of the change in circumstances. Failure to do so may lead to a penalty of £70 being imposed. You can tell us about most changes online


COUNCIL TAX REDUCTION (FORMERLY COUNCIL TAX BENEFIT)

Apply online if you think you are entitled to Council Tax Reduction based on your income please contact us without delay. If you are in receipt of Council Tax Reduction and your circumstances change please notify us immediately. Things you will need to tell us about include:

  • a change in your income, including the type or amount of income you receive
  • a person moving in or out of your home, including additions to your family
  • a child leaving school or further/higher education
  • a change in the income of anyone living in your home, other than you or your partner

It is important that you tell us about these changes so that you do not miss out on any reduction that you may be entitled to. If you are in receipt of Council Tax Reduction and do not notify us of any changes which affect your entitlement within 21 days, you may be liable for a penalty of £70.
